Last year we wrote a tutorial post about how to change the air filter in your HVAC system. As a brief reminder of why this is important, a clogged air filter can cause the following problems for your air conditioning and heating system:
- A significant plunge in energy efficiency because the blower motor must strain harder against the obstructions in the filter.
- Potential damage to the interior of the HVAC system because of dust and dirt infiltration.
- A general decline in comfort around the house because there will no longer be sufficient airflow.
A question we often hear from customers is, “How often does the filter need to be changed?” We’re glad people ask this, because there’s a misleading belief—one we’ve seen too often wandering around the Internet—that the air filter only needs to be changed once a year. Nothing could be further from the truth! In some cases, an HVAC filter needs to be changed as often as once a month.

Spring is the time to take a good look at your air conditioning system and decide if it can make it through the coming summer heat. In most cases,
The arrival of the first warm spring weather is a warning sign for homeowners that the time has come to have their air conditioning systems given a thorough professional inspection and precision tune-up. This helps people head into the hottest weather of the year with the reassurance their ACs will perform to expectation, won’t waste money, and have little chance of breaking down.
Spring means both house cleaning and financial cleaning. As you look over your taxes for the year and think about big-scale home cleaning jobs, it’s easy to pass over a few cleaning jobs hiding out of sight. One of these is

We’re starting to enjoy some warmer weather here. But as we pointed out in our last post,

This is the week when people actually pay attention to what groundhogs think about the weather. There are many different groundhog prophets on the East Coast, but this year the two most famous—Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck—are in disagreement about whether there will be an early spring or six more weeks of winter. We would love to believe Chuck on this:
